Stocky is shutting down. What happens, and by when

Written 1 September 2026. Checked against Shopify's own migration guidance.

The short version. Stocky stopped working on 31 August 2026. It is still there, and you can still open it and export from it, for a minimum of 90 days after that. So the real deadline for getting your data out is around the end of November 2026, not the end of August. If you have not started, you are not too late.

What actually changed on 31 August

Stocky's APIs stopped. In practice that means the parts of Stocky that talked to your store stopped talking to it: no more syncing, no new purchase orders, no stocktakes writing back, no forecasting updating against yesterday's sales. What is in there is frozen at the point it stopped.

What did not happen is deletion. Shopify has said Stocky stays available for viewing and exporting for at least 90 days. So the app opens, the reports run, and the data you can see is the data you can take.

The two dates people confuse

DateWhat it isWhat it means for you
31 August 2026 Stocky stopped working Your forecasting and purchase ordering stopped that day. If you are still running the business on it, you are running it on numbers that stopped updating.
Around end of November 2026 Viewing and exporting end The actual deadline for getting your data out. Minimum 90 days from the shutdown, so treat it as the end of November and do not cut it fine.

Almost everything written about this used the August date, which is why so many merchants believe the window has already closed. It has not. It does mean the clock on the part that matters, exporting, has been running quietly since then with nothing to remind you.

What you lose, and what you keep

Stocky did four jobs. They do not all leave the same hole.

What to do, in order

  1. Export your suppliers first. Not because it is the most valuable, but because it is the only part with a deadline you cannot move, and it is the part with no button. Here is exactly what to capture, in a format that imports without editing. Twenty minutes for most stores.
  2. Run the reports that do export. Product costs and stocktakes come out as CSV from the Reports section. Purchase orders export one order at a time, so a long ordering history is real work. Save them somewhere that is not Stocky.
  3. Check your unit costs are in Shopify. Cost per item lives on the product in Shopify, not only in Stocky, but plenty of stores set it in one place and not the other. Any replacement prices purchase orders from that field, so a blank one produces an order with no money on it.
  4. Then choose a replacement. Deliberately last. Choosing takes as long as you let it, and the first three steps have a deadline while choosing does not.

What a replacement has to do that Stocky did

Worth writing down before you start comparing, because it is easy to be sold features Stocky never had while losing one it did.

Where Provido fits

Provido does the five things above. The forecasting is deterministic statistics rather than AI, so the same sales history always produces the same answer and every reorder can be explained in plain English. AI is used only for the writing: turning those figures into an explanation you can read, and drafting the email to your supplier. It never decides what to order and it never sends anything without you approving it.

It is not everything Stocky did. Provido does not do stocktakes or cycle counts, stock transfers between locations, POS or barcode workflows, or user permissions. Counting moved into Shopify POS natively, which is where most of that went anyway, but if you relied on Stocky for transfers or barcode workflows then Provido is not a complete swap and you will need something alongside it. Better you know that now than after you have moved your suppliers across.

There is a free plan with no time limit, which exists for exactly this situation. Installing it now and watching it for two months costs you nothing, and is a better test than a 30 day trial that expires while you are still migrating everything else.

Two minutes. What the forecasts, the reasoning behind each one, and a drafted purchase order actually look like.
